So I started reading this manga last year, but stopped because one of the manga sites I went to stopped at Vol.12(but I recently found the rest on mangafox.com, yeah!!!!!). To give a brief summary, the story is about a 28year old journalist named Sumire who broke up with her bf of 5 years because he felt inferior to her both in height and economic status. When she comes home from work, she finds a cardboard box infront of her apartment complex and discovers there's a guy inside, she thinks he's dead at first. She invites him into her apartment and finds out he's a 21 year old dancer with no place to go because he didn't want to sleep with this older gay guy who would've provided him shelter. Sumire decides to allow the young man to stay with her if she agrees to be his pet. The guy agrees to the term and when Sumire asks for his name he says since she's his master she must name him. So Sumire decides to call him Momo since he reminds her of her ex dog due to his curly/wavy hair thats dyed brown with black roots. Sumire warns Momo that he is not to do any sexual stuff to her because he does not possess the three qualities she wants in a man which is "Tall, makes more money than her, and confident" which shoots Momo down because he's 165cm(5'6) and she's 170cm(5'7).
It sounds simple, but thats not the case with the story as Sumire starts to develop feelings for Momo while she finally gets with her ideal man, and Momo also starts to fall in love with Sumire. I felt towards the end, it did become somewhat rushed, which pissed me off...but I guess the mangaka was tired of having this manga run for like 5years when it was only 14 volumes.
The point of mentioning this manga was that I realized...the relationship between Sumire and Momo reminded me so much of the relationship with my boyfriend. No, I didn't find him infront of my apartment complex in a cardboard box homeless, but I did meet him at my cousins apartment which was one floor below me. When I first met Hisao, I didn't think he also lived up to my Three Ideals:
Taller than me
sexy body
Charismatic + Fashionable
okay so its four..
Turns out Hisao was taller than me, he's boadering 5'9, and even though he didn't have a 6pack hollywood body.. he was stronger than me! I found this out when he picked me up for the first time after we were playing ping pong which surprised the hell out of me!!! Just 3 weeks prior to when we hung out, he offered to carry me and I was kept thinking he was too weak to even lift my leg. Like Momo, Hisao comes from a family full of girls and he's the youngest/only boy. In terms of how Sumire treats Momo, I guess I do sometimes treat my boyfriend like a pet. I like doing his hairmore like trying to control it lol, feeding him, as well as give him tips on his fashion sense. I say harsh things to Hisao now and then, tsurunde* as he describes it, but Hisao always responds like Momo in a funny loving way which really makes me happy. Both Sumire and I also like anime and fighting shows( i prefer watching martial arts!) I also realized Hisao's personality is like Momo's! They're both perverts, but generally care about the person they decide to love. Hisao wasn't a ladies man persay, but he did have a lot of *chick friends* before...and he doesn't dance, but he used to do Karate. Also, Momo can't cook, but Hisao can. In terms of age, I'm only 8months older than him even though even though we were born in different years, but he does like to call me old lady every now and then. He's naturally young at heart, and I still haven't gotten over my quater mid-life crisis. Towards the end of the book Sumire and Momo had to become a Long Distance couple which is what I'm currently going through, but if things go right, I will be with Hisao living in Japan in September. So here's hoping everything goes well..
This is us in print..lol
